2009 Hydraulic components for the egg-shaped lift of the “Ponte di Calatrava”(officially named “ Constitution Bridge”)
On the fourth bridge over the Grand Canal designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava will be installed an egg-shaped lift for transferring disabled persons. The cabin, that will transfer a disabled person with wheelchair and a conductor, will be placed in a sunken concrete-encased shaft on the bridge base and will be lifted up to the pavement level by an hydraulic telescopic cylinder. The cabin will be laid down on a platform that is anchored to the driving rack- device on two rails situated on the side of the bridge and coupled up to the supporting structures. It will be operated by four electric motors and guided by a computer with triple redundancy (but the mechanic activation will be always possible). At the end of the trip, that will take 7/8 minutes, the cabin, after the descent of the passengers, will be lowered in the sunken shaft on the other side of the bridge. • 2 chromium-plated 4 stages Telescopic cylinders ø 50 with travel 8020 mm and 4870 mm, functioning with biodegradable oil.
